Darwin – Northern Territory

Monday, 7 September 2015

Darwin is a Fishing Australia favourite.

The city enjoys an envied status as a hub for a wonderful variety of angling adventures both on and off shore, and is the gateway to the diverse and dramatic wilderness of the Northern Territory. Just a few hours drive and you could be in the stunning surrounds of the Kakadu, Mary River or Litchfield National parks; awesome examples of nature’s wonder.

Adventure of all sorts can be found within Darwin’s fringe. Ride the swell at the wave pool, eyeball a croc in the ‘cage of death’ at Crocosaurus Cove, take a thrilling jet boat ride or throw out a line from the wharf. Darwin is Australia’s only tropical capital. A cosmopolitan city that has endured the ravages of war and nature, and now personifies the essence of a multi-cultural destination renown for its many fine restaurants and bars, abundance of outdoor pleasures and easy way of life.

Local markets are a big part of Darwin’s personality. At the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, sample international cuisine from some 60 food stalls – Sri Lankan, Turkish, Greek, Cambodian, Japanese – and eat on the beach as the sun sinks into the ocean. After dinner, find the perfect gift among stalls of art and craft, then relax with a local ice-cream or mango smoothie as fire twirlers, musicians and street performers entertain the crowds.

Top five things to do:
1. Mindil Beach Sunset Markets
2. Sunset dinner cruise
3. Wave pool / Waterfront Precinct
4. Deckchair Cinema
5. Crocosaurus Cove
