A reminder to anglers gearing up for summer that the best $20 you can spend in a tackle shop is an instructional DVD. It is no good having loads of gear and not knowing how to use it, and good DVD’s have all the knots, rigs, how to cast and most importantly how find and catch fish.
There are loads of good instructional DVD’s out there, for locals in this region I have produced my own DVD specifically for the south coast of NSW. This will without question see you catch lots of flathead, bream, snapper, salmon tailor, kingfish and even jewfish (which are as easy as ever this season once you know how). It includes everything from jettys to boat, kayak, beach and offshore fishing.
My DVD is called “Fishing with Rob Paxevanos” (original I know, but at least it is too the point) Most good tackle stores have the new multi pack display stand of these DVD’s on their counter, and I have directed many an enquiry in this direction. For anglers that can’t get to a store that stocks instructional DVD I have also now made mine available at my new web site www.robpax.com. Better than paying for fresh fish, and a lot more fun I can tell you!
Australia’s Coastal Wilderness wins national award
A dedicated team from South Eastern NSW and East Gippsland who form the Australia’s Coastal Wilderness Steering Committee have won this year’s Australia’s National Landscapes Tourism Achievement award.
Committee chair Tim Shepherd, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Regional Manager for the Far South Coast, says the award recognises the importance tourism economies place on environmental conservation and how tourism operators and organisations, local government, and state government can work together toward shared aims.
“The coastal wilderness between Montague Island and Marlo is a uniquely beautiful part of Australia, and indeed the world, and should be shared widely,” Mr Shepherd said.
“With care, increasing visitation to Australia’s coastal wilderness will not be at the expense of the delicate ecosystems and visiting wildlife,”
“We want to promote our region to discerning visitors who make the most of coastal experiences while respecting the environment or even enhancing conservation by becoming involved in voluntary conservation work.
“Those involved in this award promote volunteer tourism such as penguin conservation work on Montague Island, weed control in Nadgee Nature Reserve and conservation efforts through Coast Action Groups in Victoria.
“I commend the steering committee for all their work promoting the concept of Australia’s Coastal Wilderness as a national landscape and I am certain the region will see benefits.
“Along with places such as the Flinders Ranges, Kakadu and the Kimberley, Australia’s Coastal Wilderness will now become the focus of Tourism Australia’s international promotion,” Mr Shepherd said.
The award recognises Australia’s Coastal Wilderness commitment to enhancing visitor experiences, developing new visitor infrastructure and deepening stories of the landscape.
Fishing snapshots in the picture for 2012
NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) has put the State’s top fishing photographs in focus in the 2012 NSW Recreational Fishing Calendar. NSW DPI Fisheries Manager, Sarah Boyd, said the calendars are now available in print and online and showcase recreational fishing for what it is, a great recreational sport and leisure activity.
“Fishing remains a popular past time, with more than one million recreational fishers getting out and about every year to take part,” Ms Boyd said.
“The photos featured in the calendar are a good example of what great fun can be had, hitting the water for a bit of fishing.
Orders for copies of the calendar can be placed by visiting the fisheries NSW DPI website at http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/info/photo-competition
See you on the water.
