Floods can flush a lot of bait out of a system and waiting for the smorgasbord are the big hungry jewfish. Big rains can see jewie fever set in amongst the keener anglers in the community, particularly in jewfish hot spots north of Sydney.
This is the time to use loud lures, and few are louder than the new Rapala Clacking Rap when worked aggressively. So it is no surprise that these lures have become the secret weapon of anglers up that way over recent times; outfishing softies 10 to 1 when the water is murky and fish need vibration to find their feed.
Check out the attached pic of Dave Thompson in the rain at Gosford and grinning from ear to ear with a jewfish caught on his first try with a clacking rap.
Nice effort Dave, but you might need a water proof camera; your phone wont last long in the rain.
Again well done.
