Rob comments:

I have long believed that while the Kimberley may be rich in natural beauty, it is the characters and operators that make the experience extra special for visitors and at a recent tourism industry award the experts agreed; check the following press release which makes mention of many of the people who have helped on Fishing Australia over the years:

Press Release Starts:

The tourism industry of Western Australia honoured its high achievers at a gala event on Saturday at the Burswood Entertainment Complex, with many of the
category winners coming from the State’s North.

CEO of Australia’s North West, Glen Chidlow, paid credit to industry representatives of the region, saying “The tourism operators in the North West are excellent
ambassadors for the Pilbara and Kimberley, and they continue to deliver a world class experience for the many visitors to the North West.”

Willie Creek Pearl Farm was the big winner on the night, collecting Gold in all three of the categories in which they were entered. A family operated business, Willie
Creek Pearl Farm has positioned itself as a must-do tour for visitors to Broome, and has helped greatly in providing a better understanding of the pearling industry and its importance to Broome.

Chris Pye, long time stalwart of WA tourism and operator of the Karijini Eco Retreat, won the prestigious Sir David Brand Medal for his outstanding individual effort to the industry over many years.

Other North West category winners on the night included Cable Beach Club Resort and Spa for Luxury Accommodation, Kimberley Wild Expeditions for Tour/Transport Operator, Uptuyu Adventures for Indigenous Tourism, Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster for festivals and Events, and Broome Sightseeing Tours for Heritage and Cultural Tourism.

Other finalists from the region also received recognition for silver and bronze awards in their respective categories including Karijini Eco Retreat, the Kununurra Visitor Centre, Alligator Airways, Pearl Sea Coastal Cruises, Faraway Bay, Habitat Resort Broome and Pinctada Cable Beach.

“The North West may be rich in natural attractions but it is the operators themselves who have made the region such a sort-after holiday destination” said Mr Chidlow.
“The success of the region as a world class destination is testament to their passion and expertise.”
